The first post
Welcome! It is with great pleasure that I introduce my new music project to you all, The Moving Dawn Orchestra.
Since my previous releases on the Austrian net label ‘Laridae’ under the alias of ‘iambic²’ I have had a shift in musical direction. The iambic² (now known just as iambic) project was, and still is, all about writing music that reflects my current mood, whats been going on in my life and giving me the chance to experiment within the boundaries of ambient and electro-acoustic music. I have seen my song writing move further and further away from the ambient electronic genre and into a much more humanized style incorporating influences from jazz and post-rock. This has of course gone down with mixed feelings amongst the people who originally heard of me through my first two full length albums ‘Under These Stars, We’ll Sleep Again’ and ‘As The Snow Fell’. People seem to enjoy my newer style more and it seems to draw in a group of music listeners that I could never access previously with my first two albums. However, some fans of the two albums on Laridae have rejected the musical progression of iambic and tend to ignore what I release now. This, of course, is a natural thing to happen to any artist throughout their career – but there is still a big part of me that wants to continue writing in the ambient electronic style, where I go back to my roots (a synthesizer!) and compose works in a similar ilk to my first releases.
This does not mean I am going to churn out songs identical to previous releases. My influences are different, my song writing has matured (well I hope it has, it’s been nearly 5 years since certain tunes on my first album were written!) and I’ve developed new skills both on an acoustic instrumentation level and also on a digital medium. I have developed and progressed musically, and I want to let this progression influence my ambient electro-acoustic works as much as it does my new jazz/post-rock works.
So I present to you The Moving Dawn Orchestra.
The Moving Dawn Orchestra’s first EP was written about 1 year ago when Daniel from Fluid Audio approach me to make Fluid Audio an EP under the alias of iambic. This EP was to be written using only orchestral elements, with no drums or un-tuned percussion. Daniel wanted 4 songs, each circa 8 minutes in length representing each season of a year. In about 3 weeks I had written and produced this EP. As I kept listening to it over the following 8 -10 months, I realised that this EP was very similar to the early iambic² ambient pieces but with a more ‘organic’ electro-acoustic ambient feel. When I realised this, and also that the iambic project had moved far away from this sound, I figured that I had to make a new alias to release this under. The Moving Dawn Orchestra is the product of that chain of thought.
The first EP, entitled ‘Dials’ will be released in 2010 on Fluid Audio as a very limited edition CD. The CD will be limited to only 50 copies but will include special hand made packaging and will also include a unique photo album for each CD made – no two albums will be exactly identical. The EP will also be released as a digital download on all the major online music retailers such as iTunes and Amazon. A preview of the EP can be found on the Audio page.
To be kept up to date with the release of this EP, I have decided to merge my iambic mailing list with The Moving Dawn Orchestra’s mailing list, so please head over to the iambic web site and sign up to the mailing list if you haven’t already. I will also keep this blog up to date with the latest progress and anything else (might be a bit random!) that could be of interest.
Thank you for reading!

Looking forward to any new material!
Also : The unique photo album idea is quite awesome.
One issue though : Getting one’s hands on any of the digital download stuff is pretty complicated from where I live.I’d really appreciate any other download method apart from any of the major music retailers (maybe like a donation-driven download). Also, I would want the money to go to you directly and not through any 3rd party.
But oh well, I’ll try and get the CD anyway : )
Thanks a load for your support. What kind of online payment methods do you regularly use? I will try to set something up on the new iambic web store so you’ll be able to order.
First of all : I really, really appreciate the effort!!
So,
The method I most commonly use, is paying by credit card.To this day, I never had any problems with that method.
What you could also use, is PayPal.Sure, it’s 3rd party again, but at least I can pay.
Another way would be Bandcamp (http://bandcamp.com/), which I nowadays see on some indie-music stores.
PS : While I could see the comment on the rss-feed, it’s still not displayed here. Maybe I have to clear the cookies though
No problem, PayPal will be the primary payment method
wow, i am very excited about this project, i cant wait to hear more news about it! ‘organic electro-acoustic ambient’ sounds like excactly the kind of stuff i’ve been looking for lately. this year is already off to a great start, music-wise. so many wonderful projects in store..
Guy,
I can relate to those people who connect with your new material. I really enjoy your older material as well (“When Father Cries” and “Breathe, For One Last Time” are gorgeous, nice job!) but am especially loving The Moving Dawn Orchestra stuff. Just got the CD in the mail today – thank you for helping to keep the spirit of creativity alive. I loved the time & thought put into the packaging, it speaks volumes as to the passion you have for what you do – musically and creatively.
Thanks.
Bryan
Thanks everyone for the nice comments and support. Hope you enjoyed the release!
